Hi Smiffy Here.
Born 22nd February 1961 I’ve lived in Worcester all my life.
I went to Cranham Drive Junior School before moving on to Bishop Perowne Secondary School in Barbourne Road until 1977 when I left.
We won’t talk about my time there as my final school report said “He will never do any good when he leaves school”. How wrong they were. I’ve only ever been 3 months unemployed and that was when I first left school.
I have always been mad on music and at the age of 13 I had my first set of DJ decks, however it wasn’t until about 1979 that with the name “Sound & Vision” and with my mate Alan Hart did I start doing mobile work on a weekly basis.
In 1981 we were voted the best mobile disco in Worcester as voted for by various Social Clubs around the area.
In the early 80’s I used to present the afternoon show on Worcester Hospital Radio and it was at this time I realised I wanted to be a professional radio presenter.
After a lot of knockbacks in 2000 Muff Murfin gave me the opportunity I was waiting for and offered a Sunday Night slot on Classic Gold Radio.
Several months later Muff Murfin noticed potential in me and gave me the Saturday Afternoon Sports show. Not knowing anything about sport I made the show my own after Muff gave me the freedom of play.
This led to me doing the Drivetime Show and eventually the prestige Breakfast Show. This show went on to become joint 4th most listened to Breakfast Show in the Midlands (something I am still proud of today).
Classic Gold Radio went on to have several name changes, Classic Hits Radio & Sunshine Radio, which went off air in 2009.
While working as a bus driver I met my now wife Carole.
I wasn’t until April 2024 that I again donned a pair of headphones for another internet radio station.
It was then that Max Crane asked me to join him and become Co- Owner of this wonderful Local Internet Radio Station WRXY.
